What’s in our Glass

Penelope Bourbon - The original four grain whiskey blend that was created to commemorate the birth of a child. At 75% corn, it’s a very clean whiskey with a light fruit and vanilla flavor on the front and with a bit more bite than I expected.

Bowmore - Probably the least peaty Islay whisky, this smoky flavor is something I just can’t get enough of when it’s light and accentuates the whisky instead of replacing the whisky. This bottle was moved into my normal rotations for any steak and BBQ.

Behind the Still

In the 19th century, whiskey was sometimes prescribed as medicine and sold in pharmacies—complete with a doctor’s note! During Prohibition in the U.S. (1920-1933), this loophole allowed "medicinal whiskey" to be legally purchased, making pharmacies like Walgreens thrive, growing from 20 stores to over 400 by the end of Prohibition.

Blue Run Ember - Enjoy flavors of juicy orange, dry cinnamon, and honey, with a bold and lingering finish of sweet wood and wood spice. This 70-case limited production micro-batch blend was crafted to ignite a flavor explosion that delivers high proof (128.8) without the heat.

Whiskey Culture

  • 2 oz Bowmore No. 1 Single Malt

  • 1 oz Canadian cranberry juice

  • 1/2 oz fresh lemon juice

  • 1/4 oz simple syrup

  • Fresh cranberries and a sprig of mint for garnish

Instructions: Muddle fresh cranberries and simple syrup in a shaker. Add Bowmore, cranberry juice, and lemon juice. Shake well with ice and strain into a rocks glass filled with ice. Garnish with fresh cranberries and a sprig of mint.
